What is Cataract Awareness Month?

Cataract Awareness Month is a dedicated time to raise awareness about cataracts, a common age-related condition that clouds the lens of the eye, leading to impaired vision and blindness if left untreated. Throughout this month, we strive to educate communities about cataracts, their prevention, and the importance of early detection and treatment.

At Project Vision, we envision a world where everyone has access to quality eye care, ensuring no one suffers from preventable vision impairment. As we celebrate Cataract Awareness Month, we renew our commitment to this vision by raising awareness and funds to combat cataracts and provide comprehensive eye care services to those in need across Hawaiʻi.

Fundraising Goals:

This Cataract Awareness Month, our goal is to raise $10,000 to expand our outreach efforts, enabling us to reach more individuals in need and provide essential eye care services. With your support, we can make a significant impact on the lives of those affected by cataracts and other vision impairments in Hawaiʻi.

What Are Cataracts?

Cataracts are a clouding of the eye’s natural lens, leading to vision impairment and, if left untreated, blindness. They affect millions of people worldwide, particularly those over 60. Early detection and treatment are crucial to prevent severe vision loss.

Age-related cataracts can affect your vision in two ways:

  1. Clumps of protein reduce the sharpness of the image reaching the retina.

  2. The clear lens slowly changes to a yellowish/ brownish color, adding a brownish tint to the vision.
