Lions Foundation donates $2,680 to Project Vision

The Hawaii Lions Foundation donated $2,680 to Project Vision Hawaii for a new recreational vehicle awning on its “vision van.”

Project Vision Hawaii, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free vision screenings throughout Hawaii, advocates for the early detection of eye diseases and disorders. The 36-foot RV is shipped interisland to perform health screenings for the homeless and keiki in need. Target populations are low income and have little-to-no access to health care.

“With the awning installed, screening is easier and more comfortable,” said Annie Hiller, executive director of Project Vision Hawaii. “People can wait in the shade and be protected from variable weather conditions. We greatly appreciate this donation to help our program run smoothly.”

The donation was presented at a HLF meeting by Bob Lee, president of HLF, Jack Kampfer, district governor of Hawaii Lions District 50 and member of the Wahiawa Lions, Anne Chipchase, past Palolo Lions president and HLF trustee, and Kelvin Moniz, HLF trustee and member of the East Kauai Lions.

Project Vision Hawaii has screened over 9,000 people statewide in rural areas such as Hana, Maui and Kau on the Big Island of Hawaii since 2011. Hundreds of volunteers provide more than 300 homeless people with eyeglasses and more than 800 keiki with school readiness screenings each year.

Established in 2011, Project Vision Hawaii provides free mobile vision and health screenings to Hawaii’s underserved. Advocating for the early detection of eye diseases and disorders, Project Vision Hawaii has screened over 9,000 people statewide. For more information, please visit: www.projectvisionhawaii.com.
